Foam Facts
There are two key features of foam that are important to know. The first is the density or weight and the other is the indentation load deflection (ILD) or firmness.
Density or weight- is determined by the weight of a block of foam 12″ x 12″ x 12″. The denser the foam, the heavier the foam, the longer the life span is of the foam. Our 2.5lb per cuft is high density seating or bedding foam by any standard.
Indentation Load Deflection (ILD) – is the firmness of a piece of foam. We don’t use fancy names rather we use the industry specifications to describe our product.
Soft foams generally range with an ILD of 10-35 and are very soft and are usually not recommended for seating or bedding. Firm foams generally range from a 40-60 ILD and are recommended for couch cushions and mattresses. Extra firm foam generally range from 65+ and are used on special request for different applications.
Remember, it’s the weight of the foam, not it’s firmness that gives it longevity
